So I'm wondering why one member is surprised not to be taken seriously? Again, I mentioned that in my original post. and the fact that using an EGPU with just a laptop throttles performance even more as the TB3 link has to pass data both ways. You'd have been well within your rights to point out such a glaring oversight.īut nobody spotted that pretty obvious technical issue.

If you use it with your laptop in a coffee shop you'll only ever get 1080p as your laptop is only FHD capable" followed by lots of laughing emoji's.

quite rightly, that "you said you want the EGPU for 4K gaming on your TV at home. So I dropped in the comment about using the EGPU at Starbucks in to see if certain posters would comment. I also stated that I'd use the EGPU at home connected to my TV. If you read my original post then you'd have seen the spec of my laptop. It just goes to show that those who claim to be knowledgeable simply don't have a clue much of the time. The only person who gets it is which is why they've offered the most constructive advice.Īpart from those comments, all this threads has done is added two more people to my ignore list. 'Laptop with external RTX 3090 GPU - What will people think of me when they see me using it? Is it too expensive? Where and when can I get one? What do you think of CP2077 as a game? Is it too heavy to carry around? Is Starbucks an ideal place to game?' I haven't asked anywhere for anyone's opinion about where I want to use it, why I want to use it and what will other people who see me using it think.

not price, not whether it's a waste of money, not what other people's reactions will be. I've asked a question about how these external GPU's perform and if anyone has any experience of using them. you know nothing about my circumstances and I've not asked anyone to comment on them.Īs I keep repeating.

One person's nightmare is another persons dream. If they do I'll ask "What are you staring at?" And why I want to do it is my affair. Personally I work in IT and if I do say so myself am very technical and I wouldnt want one unless I won the lottery and didnt care about money and wanted to see how it worked for a laugh as when it didnt your on your own.Ĭlick to expand.I couldn't care less who stares. Personally I work in IT and if I do say so myself am very technical and I wouldnt want one unless I won the lottery and didnt care about money and wanted to see how it worked for a laugh as when it has issues your on your own and I could stop using it then. Also be prepared for some additional work getting things to work as this is likely to be something that will happen and your working in a very small world of users so getting support on places like this would be harder. If you can get one for £1900 with a genuine branded 3090 in it thats a good price for it - check what card it contains before you purchase would be my advice as that price is wandering into too good to be true territory. I think a lot of the thinking is that buying a more exspenive gaming laptop is a better idea but of course that no use when you already have one - is there an option to sell what you have got and use the combine cash to buy a veyr powerfull gaming laptop ? Just a consideration.
EXTERNAL GRAPHICS CARD FOR LAPTOP VR PORTABLE
You can have a very portable laptop to carry around with you and get proper gaming when your at home. Its not really portable - it of course needs a plug socket which there may be in a coffee shop but I would be worried about lugging it around personally - again that's just me. Performance is lower than the card in the bay, sometime a lot lower.Ĭompatibility on what works is lower, some games become very unstable.Ĭan be noisy - in public that might be more of a concern as well if thats your use case. I don't have one of these either but all the reviews from the last few years regarding this type of tech always come back to it being a good idea only if you have a very very niche set of requirements.Ĭost is massively more than it gaming in other ways to the same level.
